The Love of Christ Is Taken Here

The vision for Kaleo, a ministry that offers short-term missions trips to student and church groups, took root in the minds of AMF mission partners Ronnie and Jenny Davis in spring 2009 and came to life in March 2010. The first Kaleo group worked with an assortment of ministries in New Orleans, including an AIDS hospice, a food bank, a rescue mission, a community center, an addiction recovery program, and a ministry to sailors.

“Already we’ve really seen God do some pretty amazing things through Kaleo,” Ronnie says. “We were able to see some of the ministries that we partner with be really blessed.” A regular volunteer at one Bible club where Kaleo students worked told Ronnie the group had served as a “tsunami of blessing” whose ripples will be felt far into the future.

Ronnie and Jenny also saw the students’ lives and perspectives transformed. “Hearing their stories at the end of the week, they would say things like how the entertainment culture that surrounds them has lost its appeal, and their purpose has begun to shift to being more concerned about things of the Lord—ministry and service—and less concerned about some of the things they might have been really focused on before,” Ronnie says.

The Davises work mainly with student groups because they are the ones who typically take short-term missions trips, but groups of all ages are welcome to serve with Kaleo. A few weeks are still open for groups to go to Dallas or New Orleans this summer. Please help connect others to Kaleo by passing on the ministry’s web address, www.kaleomissions.org, to leaders of student and church groups.
