During one of Marie’s Vacation Bible School class sessions, five-year-old Bree put her face close to an open Bible and said, “Jesus, are you in there?” She was getting the concept that God speaks to us in His Word.

In another class Marie was explaining to the children how to become a child of God. She told them how that at age eight she had prayed to accept Jesus as her Savior. In a few moments she noticed little Timmy with his head down, eyes closed, and hands folded. When he raised his head, he said to Marie, “I asked Jesus to come into my life. Right now!”

In all, six children openly professed to trust Christ as their Savior. We praise God for opportunities to touch the lives of children with God’s message of love and forgiveness through Jesus Christ.

For me, “compassion” is an action word. It means “I care enough to do something and will do at least what I can, if not more!”

Compassion is love in action. Christ Jesus modeled it when He walked this earth as the Lamb of Sacrifice. When Jesus was moved with compassion, stuff happened and lives were changed. The opposite of compassion is apathy. Apathy says, “I see the problem, but I don’t care enough to get involved and make a difference.”  There really is no middle ground between compassion and apathy, though many try to find it and live there. As Jesus said, “He who is not with Me is against Me; and he who does not gather with Me scatters” (Matthew 12:30, NIV).
